Dungog’s rolling hills may be beautiful, but they have long made reliable radio reception a challenge. For many residents across the Shire, even accessing a clear ABC signal has often been difficult.
Recognising this gap, community leaders came together in 2010 to establish a local radio service. What began as an ambitious idea quickly became a reality, with an enormous volunteer effort bringing Radio Dungog to life in a modest blue container behind the Visitor Information Centre on the main street.
Since those early days, the station has grown alongside the community it serves. In 2025, Radio Dungog moved into purpose-built studios, officially opened in October, significantly enhancing both broadcast quality and reach across the Shire.
Formally incorporated as Dungog Community Radio Inc on 25 January 2010, the station continues to operate under its constitution, delivering programming that reflects the diversity, interests, and identity of the local community.
At its heart, Radio Dungog is community-driven. We actively encourage participation from across the Shire, ensuring local voices help shape the content we create and share.
